How to Plan your Christmas Marketing Activities

Over the festive season, you need to make sure you have your brand and marketing activities organised in good time, for best results when it comes to business growth. Below are some ideas to consider. I also include more tips via my email newsletter so make sure you're subscribed.

1. Be Clear on Your Offer

Whether you’re selling one product or multiple services, clarity is key.

Focus on a particular offer or product that aligns with your goals. For example, during the festive season, you might highlight stocking fillers or specific services that make great holiday gifts. Avoid overwhelming your audience by promoting too many items at once. Select a few to spotlight.

2. Know Your Ideal Customers

Not everyone is your customer! Identify who your products or services are most suited to. Segment your audience based on their interests. For example, if you sell both affordable stocking fillers and more expensive items, market them to different customer groups accordingly.

3. Build a Strong Brand Proposition

Your brand proposition is what sets you apart. It’s your opportunity to tell your customers what you do, why you’re unique, and how you solve their pain points. Craft a statement that resonates with your ideal customer. For example: “I offer budget-friendly branding and marketing solutions tailored for small business owners.”

4. Leverage Your Unique Selling Points

Stand out from the competition by bigging up what you do best and use this to your advantage. Instead of focusing on general USPs (Unique Selling Points), think about your Extra Value Proposition (EVP). What little extras do you provide that make your customers feel special? Whether it’s personalised packaging, a handwritten note, or a unique scent in your products, these small touches can make a big difference.

5. Please Don't Rely Solely on Social Media

You can use your social media to promote your branded content. Remember, social media is not the same as content. While social media is a powerful tool for engaging customers, it shouldn't be your only channel. Ensure you’re also leveraging email lists, phone contacts, and personal connections. Review your social media following—focus on quality over quantity. Make sure your followers are genuinely aligned with your brand.

6. Build Connections with Purpose

Who can you connect with online and offline to start growing your network before the New Year?Take time to connect with people who match your target audience. Engage authentically with them, and build relationships rather than just selling.A strong network of aligned followers can increase your sales and brand loyalty over time.

7. Focus on Extra Value

Going beyond the sale is what builds customer loyalty. Offer something more—like valuable tips, a personalised experience, or special packaging. This makes you memorable. I can think of many brands that include leaflets about partner offers or upsell items and fun feedback cards in their packaging.

Final Thoughts

If you’re serious about boosting your sales, it all comes down to clarity, focus, and building real connections. Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Instead, narrow your focus, know your customers, and deliver extra value at every opportunity.Take these tips and use them to evaluate your current sales strategy. Are you doing everything you can to connect with the right people and showcase your value?
